Miela
/mi'ela/
verb:
1. to dance (in dholuo)
Debora Rogo is based in Sagam Village in Siaya County (located in Western Kenya on the shores of Lake Victoria). A hospital administrator/lawyer "by day", she also moonlights as a photographer “by night”. She has lived in or travelled to over 40 countries across the globe (25 in Africa). Debora’s identity is black, female, African, luo (tribal leanings) and Kenyan. She has often found that she has lived in environments where she often the minority and appreciates the importance of having a voice that allows one’s story to be told. Whether in Africa or focusing on the everyday lives of people across the world, she believes every person has the right to self-determination. She hopes her photography captures that essence of being.
In the end, we all have to dance to the beat of our own drum.
